Having studied Psychology at the University of Hull in the early 2000s (graduating with a First-Class Honours Degree), I successfully obtained a place on the Hull Clinical Psychology Doctorate and thereafter qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 2009.

As a Doctor of Clinical Psychology, I worked in secondary mental health services in the NHS in Hull and Grimsby, initially with adults and later with children and young people in the care system. My NHS work focused on assessment and therapy for trauma and complex trauma. I held senior positions in both adult and child services, including a clinical lead position in my last NHS post.

I founded Claire Wilson Consulting Ltd in 2012, initially alongside my NHS work. Since 2019, I have been in full-time independent practice, providing psychological assessment and therapy – particularly for trauma-related presentations – for self-funding clients, as well as those referred via case-managers or solicitors in a rehabilitation context.

A significant part of my week is also dedicated to Expert Witness assessments, providing psychological medicolegal reports for the Civil Courts in high-value personal injury and clinical negligence cases. I am recognised as a balanced, clear, yet compassionate expert providing robust and comprehensive reports. I frequently provide reports on complex and sensitive matters, such as birth trauma, neonatal loss or stillbirth, and have also presented at professional conferences on these topics.

I am committed to the ongoing development of my therapeutic skills and am trained in a number of evidence-based approaches. I am an Accredited Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) practitioner, and have a particular interest in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) Therapy, completing my initial training in 2009. EMDR has been a core part of my therapeutic work ever since.  I am an Accredited EMDR Consultant which gives assurance of a high level of skill and experience in using EMDR as recognised and awarded by the EMDR Association UK. This includes providing clinical supervision to other EMDR therapists, both one to one and in groups.

Whichever part of my service you are accessing, you can expect the same high standards of care, professionalism, and warmth.

Clinical Psychologists complete a minimum of six years of core training, including a three-year NHS-based professional doctorate. We are regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
